Turning up is the whole point

Most sport for young people has a barrier in front of it: monthly subs, kit to buy, a trial to pass, or a parent who has to drive. We take all of that away.

Our sessions are free, the kit is there when you arrive, and nobody gets picked or dropped. What that buys is a couple of hours a week where a young person is expected somewhere, known by name and part of something. For a lot of young people, the football is the way in, and the mentoring, the CV help and the next step come after.

What we run

  • Football, netball, fitness and multi-sport sessions
  • Boxing and mixed martial arts
  • Girls-only sessions, run with young women in mind
  • FACE and MOTIVATE, for young people who haven't been active, including young mothers
  • Holiday clubs in the school holidays, with activities, trips and food, for ages 11 and over
  • Sessions planned so young people with SEND can take part
  • A chance to build digital confidence along the way, for example planning sessions or tracking progress online

Built on years of sport in Blackburn

Sport has been at the heart of our work since 2014. In 2021 to 2022 more than 2,000 people took part in our sport and activity programmes, including ThisAbility, our sport programme for young people with disabilities. That same year we started running holiday clubs at Easter, summer and Christmas, and our venues were full.

In 2022 to 2023 our new boxing and mixed martial arts sessions reached more than 300 people. Since 2024 we've run girls-only youth sessions with a professional football club's community trust.

Session times change with the seasons and with what young people ask for, so call 01254 957607 or email hello@famcharity.org to find out what's on this week.
